I lost 10 kgs in 8 weeks
Yes this hub is about weight loss. One of the "Evergreen" topics on the net.
No I am not selling any miracle weight loss drug or product. It was all done the old fashioned way.
If you want to know how here's the details. I was about 56 kgs when I got married. Then the next three years saw my husband and me getting comfortable with each other. I gained two kgs each year.
So by the time I got pregnant I was at 62kgs. And now that I was pregnant there was no way to control my diet. I was eating as healthy as possible, but hey gaining weight is expected at this stage.
When I delivered I was 72 kgs. Now everyone said once the baby has you running around after him you'll drop the weight really fast. A couple of years went by I became 75 kgs. Now I decided I was fat.
I mean close to obese fat. My clothes from before pregnancy were still in the trunk I had packed them. I took them out and had a look. There was no way I was fitting into any of these pants or sari blouses. Skirts and shirts have a way of accommodating you.
Eat Well, Just Eat Less
So when I first decided to lose some weight, I knew I was not going to go on a crash diet. I am the kind who likes her food. At first i limited my calorie intake to 1200 calories per day, but now I consume 1800 calories per day. If you want to count your calories you can download a list from the internet. Many sites give you the calorie count of the food you eat.
So I knew I had to eat sensibly and push up the calorie burning. Only I get bored very easily and so I knew variety was the order of the day. That is why I started a list of things that I could do that helped me to burn fat.
1 Cycling
I have always loved cycling even as a child. I got my husband a cycle for Valentine's Day. He never used it and six months later I decided to put it to good use. So every morning after I loaded my kid into his school bus I would go cycling. I usually did between 3 to 5 kms each morning and came home.
2 Pranayam
This is the set of breathing exercises that helps you maintain good health. One particular type of breathing called the Kapal Bharati actually helps you shed weight. It is not at all difficult to practice and any one can do it. If you need more details visit my hub on pranayam. It will help you understand just what I did.
3 Yoga
Simple yoga asanas which helped strengthen my back muscles and burn some fat. I am not a teacher of yoga so I do not remember the exact names of all the asanas, but if you do an art of living course they will teach you all the basic asanas that help exercise your muscles. Some of them are really simple, while others will take some doing.
4 Walking
In the evening I would go for a 5km walk. Initially it would take me more than an hour to cover the distance, but as I got fitter and my stamina increased I got faster. Now I can do it in 45 minutes on a good day. Although I find walking alone very boring and when I walk with a friend the speed tends to suffer.
5 Tummy Tucks and Push Ups
These are simple to do and can be done any time you have a few minutes to spare. I usually do these at least an hour after eating. So as not to affect the digestion.
I also have a habit of watching TV on my tummy and swinging my legs. You really burn calories and don't even notice. A fifteen minute spell is worth ten minutes of walking in terms of calorie loss. Not bad for just watching TV.
On the whole I lost 10 kgs which would be around 20 pounds. I have managed to keep off the weight for almost nine months. So I'm quite sure that the way I went about losing weight was right. I have more stamina, and am not obese. I may never be slim, but I'll settle for pleasantly plump.

Glad it worked for you. I tried all kinds if things for years but only started losing weight after resuming martial arts practice twice a week. Once was not enough. I found I got thinner but weighed the same. I seem to have lost at least two inches from my waist in the laat yeaar
Which brings me to one of my favourite peeves: Using weight asa measure of fat. Muscle is denser than fat and so you can get thinner and heavier. OK, you would have to move to almost athletee level training to do so but it can happen.

so I was 78.5 kgs when I decided I had enough... so I joined a diet course and lost 17 kgs just by controlling what I ate and no exercise at all... but due to exams and scedule pressures I gave in and didnt get to my target goal of 55 kgs. I stopped controlling what I ate when I was 61 kgs... 2 years passed... I just went on the scales and it said 63.7... its time again and your article is one of the first pieces of motivation Ive found after Ive decided on joining the gym on monday and getting back into track... life is too short to deal with self image problems.. you have it inside.. even if it is covered by a layer of fat.. so get rid of that unflattering layer and shine!

Congrats on your achievement..I gained weight after my baby turned one so can't blame being preggers for it....I did the same thing I calculated calories and limitedly diet and the. My weight at my marrige is 58kgs, after baby its 70kgs, 1yr before i gone to gym to reduce my weight still i was 70kgs and due to my studies i left gym now my weight is 75kgs. My hub and my in laws laugh at me because of my fat appearance i feel very bad and challenged them i will reduce my weight around 59 or 60kgs by Jan'12.

hey,i was 60kgs good for my tall height \and build was happy with that! now after indulging and having a baby i am not 88kgs. not good at all!! I am one 2 meal replacements-milkshake diet and one healthy meal a day (veg,protein) size of your hand! lots of exercise,walking/cycling/swimming/boxfit each week. I have been on this for a week and lost 3kgs! keep up the hard work and when you are snackish inbetween the shakes eat half an apple ect. Careful of certain fruits as they are high in sugars. I'm aiming for 60kgs so fingers crossed i will achieve this!

hi cashmere is this diet plan ok with 1 hr brisk walking Day 1 [Fruits] – Day one of your diet regime will start with all fruits diet. You may eat fruits of your choice and in any quantity. There is no limit. Eat till your stomach is full. In case you don’t find fruits in nearby stores, you can substitute it with packaged fruit juices but avoid fruit juices that have preservatives in it, they don’t really do any good in this case. On day one, you must eat fruits ONLY and don’t forget to drink at least 7 glasses of water.
Note: The only fruit that will not be on your plate is Banana. Every other fruit is ok except banana. Don’t limit it to just one fruit, have as many different fruits you can.
Day 2 [Vegetables] – This is all vegetables day. If you prefer, you may have raw or/and cooked vegetables. Eat as much as you want to, no quantity restrictions. If you want to cook the vegetables, you may do so but avoid using oil while you cook. 7 glasses of water today also.
Day 3 [Fruits and Vegetables] – On day three, you will eat a mixture of fruits and vegetables. No quantity restrictions, eat till you fill your stomach. Also, eat one banana today, just one!
Day 4 [Vegetables, Bananas and Milk] – Today you will eat 6 bananas, 3 glasses of milk and small quantity of vegetables. In the morning, your breakfast will start with 2 bananas and one big glass of milk. You will follow this in the afternoon for your lunch. In the evening eat 2 bananas, eat vegetables and drink one glass of milk.
Day 5 [Rice and tomatoes] – Today you will have one cup of rice, six full tomatoes (medium size) and since you are having lots of tomatoes, drink 10 glasses of water today.
Day 6 [Rice and Vegetables] – One cup of rice and raw/cooked vegetables of your choice. It’s recommended that you eat rice in the morning and for rest of the day, eat vegetables.
Day 7 [Fruits, Vegetables and Rice] – On day seven, eat fruits, vegetables and 1 cup of rice. You may substitute fruits and vegetables with juices as well, but that is to avoid.
This diet regime works well by burning more fat than accumulating it and since it avoids all sorts of food items that eventually gets converted to fat to become a part of your body, the weight loss is faster and harmless.

i m in mumbai so dont get any free place to cycle.even parks are crowded here.so is cycling in gym equal to cycling out in open space? how to find ones body metabolism rate?

cashmere i have one more thing to ask u.i am growing my hair shuld say trying to regain it bcoz i have lost a lot due to study pressure.i need to take protien and vitamin e for that but due to this diet plan mentioned above i am not getting it properly.so can i take pills for protien and vitamin it will it increase my weight.

Good motivational article. Can you please tell about any free or binge days u take in a week. For example many people say that you can take 1 day off in a week to eat whatever you want so that there would be no cravings. Did u take any days off in those 2 months?
Also did you excercise twice a day on all the days of the week? Was there a rest day?

i have a dout that some people tell that drinking one or two glasses of water after eating food immediately,will cause more fat in our body is it correct
cashmere i walk 5 km in a day.i complete 1 km in 10 mins then i take rest for 2-3 min and then skip for 1 min around 100 counts or jog for 200 mtrs. is this correct and one more thing i m not able to reduce now.my weight is hanging around 70-72.i came down from 78 to 70.my regime is same .wat wuld be the prob?
it s from the better to see the differences from our bodies not all of us that regime and that life stile would be suitable
